I became a Dallas County Master Gardener in 2008. In 2006, my husband & I started converting our property of turf into an oasis of drought tolerant plants that thrive in our wicked summers & unpredictable winters. Until September 2013, we had not used any municipal water on our garden for two years. Using organic principals, our property ebbs & flows with the seasons.
For ten years I was involved with the Dallas County Master Gardeners Association and presented many gardening talks in the Dallas area on their behalf. In 2009, I was presented the "Rising Star" award by the Dallas County Master Gardeners Speakers Bureau for the best new speaker. I have a passion for helping others become more aware of our native ecology & the importance of recreating what used to be here. My talks are informative & fun. People leave excited & hopeful.
In 2012, my husband & I were featured in the Dallas Morning News for the City of Dallas WaterWise Landscape Tour. We were one of five winners selected for this annual gardening event in Dallas County.
In 2017, we were also honored to be a part of the City of Richardson's WaterWise Landscape Tour. We love having folks visit the garden & while it is over the top for some, it is a perfect place to gather tips & imagine what could be on a smaller scale.
In 2020, Sean & I became North Texas Master Naturalists. Learning more about our area has supercharged our efforts to get the word out about how amazing our area is & how we all have an opportunity to make a difference.
In our opinions, any removal of turf that can be replaced with native plants is the way to go. These steps will help our environment & create the biodiversity that will move us towards a world that can thrive.
